John Toftegaard week4

Last week I continued to plan out logistics and paperwork to move forward with my summer research project. I have been designing several cad models for proposed solutions to a device designed to aid in trans catheter cardiac procedures. This device will have to be designed in such a way that it can be delivered through a small catheter so it can be easily incorporated into previous surgical protocols and integrate with current technologies. I have also been assessing different mechanical properties of the device to ensure it will properly be held in place and stand up to the pressures it will experience when positioned.

This has been a very interesting experience as part of the design process has included incorporating current technologies. This is done to ensure the device follows fda codes and can be deployed in patients in a timely manner. Since this device will eventually fill a need that at the moment has no current solution, it is very important that it gets in the hands of surgeons quickly. This on top of the small scale needed to accomplish this design within a catheter has made for a very interesting engineering project that is helpigg by me develop force modeling skills as well as device development skill.
