Anna Hazelwood - Dr. Evelyn Horn - Week 5
This week I focused more on my research project and meeting with some clinical research coordinators to plan out what I should focus on for the remaining weeks. I met with Penn Collins who is a research coordinator for the cardiology section of Weill Cornell's Whole Genome Study (WGS). He explained to me about what kind of information they gather in this study and what they plan to do with it. Through this study they are able to have access to a patient's complete medical history including MRI scans and ECGs. They also run a genetic screening on the patient to identify any potential mutations they might have. Then, with all of this information they are able to look for trends in how different genetic mutations present clinically.
However, the cardiology department is working on populating the MRI database so there is not much data there for me to go through. Therefore, I am going to do some additional trainings to get access to the Epic system. I also began doing a literature search on existing studies looking at patients with lamin mutations and titin mutations to get a good sense of their typical presentations and any interesting features about them.
